Make.com vs n8n — When to Use Which

We work with both Make.com and n8n, and we choose based on the use case. Make.com is cloud-hosted, requires no infrastructure management, and has an exceptional visual scenario builder — making it the right choice for client-managed workflows, rapid prototyping, and scenarios where non-technical stakeholders need to maintain automations.

n8n is the choice when you need self-hosting for data residency, unlimited executions at no marginal cost, or custom code nodes for logic that no visual tool can express. For many clients, we run both: Make.com for client-facing flows, n8n for high-volume internal pipelines.

Scenarios We Build

Customer Onboarding Flows

Trigger on new CRM leads, verify data, create accounts in multiple systems, send personalized welcome sequences, and notify internal teams — all automatically.

Data Synchronization

Keep your CRM, ERP, databases, and marketing platforms in sync. We build bidirectional sync scenarios that handle conflicts, deduplication, and error recovery.

AI-Enhanced Workflows

Combine Make.com's connectivity with LLM intelligence — classify incoming emails, extract data from documents, generate personalized content, and route items based on AI analysis.

Merchant & Partner Integrations

Build automation layers for your partners to onboard, sync catalog data, receive order updates, and trigger actions in their own systems through Make.com's webhook infrastructure.

Make.com FAQ

Make.com or Zapier — which is better for enterprise?+
Make.com has a fundamentally different architecture: scenarios are fully visual flow diagrams with multiple branches, iterators, aggregators, and error handlers — far more expressive than Zapier's linear Zap structure. For complex multi-step workflows with conditional logic, Make.com consistently produces cleaner, more maintainable automations. Pricing is also significantly more favorable for high-operation-count scenarios.
Can Make.com connect to our custom internal APIs?+
Yes. Make.com's HTTP module can call any REST API with full control over headers, authentication, body, and response parsing. We set up custom app connections for your internal APIs, configure OAuth or API key authentication, and set up proper error handling and retry logic. For frequently-used internal APIs, we build custom Make.com app definitions to make connections reusable across scenarios.
How do you handle errors in Make scenarios?+
Every production scenario we build includes explicit error handling: retry logic with exponential backoff, error routes for fallback actions, notifications to Slack or email on critical failures, and scenario run logs set to the appropriate retention period. We also test error scenarios during development — not just the happy path.
We already have some Make.com scenarios set up. Can you audit and improve them?+
Absolutely. We start with a scenario audit: reviewing structure, error handling, efficiency (operation counts), and maintainability. Most improvised scenarios have common issues — overly sequential flows that could be parallelized, no error handling, hardcoded values that should be variables, and missing data validation. We refactor and document everything.
What Make.com plan do we need?+
For most enterprise use cases, the Core or Pro plan covers the needs. We recommend Pro if you need scenario scheduling below 1 minute, full execution history, or advanced features like custom functions. For very high operation volumes or team features, Make.com Enterprise may be appropriate. We'll advise on the right plan during scoping.
